Charleston: Friends!

I would have to say that the best part of our weekend in Charleston was getting to see our friends Michelle & Kelly. We were able to spend two and a half days together hanging out in Charleston and walking the beaches at Isle of Palms. It was so much fun to catch up and just hang out like we used to. We started our first day by taking a walk on the beach. I have to say I was surprised by: 1. the amount of mosquitoes in the area and 2. that it wasn't very warm out! I wore a spring jacket most of the weekend while we there. It was in the 60s but very windy!! After our walk on the beach we went to Patriots Point to look at the marina there and to see the big air craft carrier docked in the bay. After that we had lunch at a great BBQ place while watching the UK basketball game. We finished up the afternoon relaxing at the beach house and watching more basketball....just like old times!

On our second day we decided to be a little touristy. We took a ferry to Fort Sumter in the Charleston Harbor. I had a lot of fun taking pictures here and exploring the fort. If you have never been here I recommend it. It was fun to see a piece of the civil war history. It was a nice day but very windy and cold with the wind coming off the water. After exploring the fort we did some more exploring of downtown Charleston. I love the old architecture and gardens in this part of town! We had lunch at 82 Queen (also highly recommend) and then walked around downtown Charleston a little more before Eric and I had to get ready for the wedding.
Failed attempt at a group picture....too windy!!

On our last day together we took one more walk on the beach and enjoyed lunch together before saying good bye. We miss these two SOOOO much! Hopefully we can visit them soon....or they can visit us!

Charleston: The Wedding

The main reason we went to Charleston a week ago was for Eric's brothers wedding. We started out the weekend with the rehearsal dinner at the Old Village Post House in Mount Pleasant. This place was great, I highly recommend it if you ever go the Charleston. The food was delicious and the happy couple looked beautiful! We had a five course meal for dinner. It started off with antipasti and a crab bisque. The soup was not my favorite, but Eric was happy to have my share! Then we had the best Cesar salad, followed by the main course either chicken or prime rib. The dessert was by far the best! It was a chocolate mocha pudding, with whipped cream, a chocolate chip cookies and small chocolate candies like whoppers. It was soooo delicious!

The wedding was the next day. We got to the church intime to see some of the picture taking. My new sister-in-law, Lindsay, was a beautiful bride! We got to see her and Justin see eachother for the first time that day. It was a very sweet and touching moment. The ceremony was beautiful but over before we knew it! On to the party! Again, the food here was wonderful! They had different stations of food: mashed potato and sweet potato bar, sliders, mini grileld cheeses, shrimp and grits, crabcakes, cheese, fruit, and cupcakes. And of course, the sweet potatoes and cupcakes were my favorite. We had a good time hanging out with family at the reception. It was a beautiful venue on Shem Creek.

Spring is here!?!?

I know I haven't blogged about Charleston yet, but the weather in MN has been unbelievable! We have had warm spring/early summer weather all week and I have been enjoying my evenings outside. Last night I walked to our local hardware store to buy some seeds to start growing inside for my veggie garden this summer. On the way home I saw so many things coming up out of the ground and budding on trees. I also saw a huge maple tree that was tapped for syrup! I just love our neighborhood!

When I got back home, Eric and I decided to go for a walk around the neighborhood. So many people were out walking, it was too nice of an evening to pass up! On the walk we actually saw some crocus in bloom! This is WAY early for spring in MN but I am not complaining!!

I promise to post about Charleston soon! We had a wonderful time catching up with friends and seeing Eric's brother get married.

This Time Last Year: March

This time last year we were enjoying Spring and all the beautiful flowers & trees that bloom in the South this time of year. One our our favorite things to do was to go to the Founders Garden on the North Campus of UGA. It was a great place to read, relax, and enjoy a beautiful garden! (if you click on the links above they will take you to some old blog posts...but here are some more pictures of this time last year, March & April blooms).

Now in MN, we are warming up! Not as drastically as in Georgia, but we are. Yesterday it was 60!! Today though it was 36. This is the pattern for Spring time in MN, warm one day and cold the next. I am looking forward to warmer and longer days and spending more time outside!
